Simcenter™ 3D software for Design Space Exploration from Siemens DI SW is a family of software modules built to accelerate the traditionally cumbersome process of optimizing product designs. Specifically, traditional methods rely on an iterative process whereby Design Engineers edit a model’s design variables (e.g., size or shape), run a simulation with the edited model, then evaluate its performance against their targeted improvements. If the revised model does not meet their performance goals, the process repeats with alternate design variable revisions until the goals are met. Depending on the complexity of the product and physics simulated, this could take hundreds of Engineering hours and extensive computing resources.
With Simcenter™ 3D for Design Space Exploration, however, Engineers start with their product performance goals as input. Then the software uses advanced algorithms to simultaneously launch multiple simulations exploring potentially hundreds of design variations to identify the best design options to meet the specified performance goals. In other words, the end result, or output, of the process is a range of optimized product designs (i.e., models) with associated simulation data validating the performance improvements. Consequently, Design Engineers can accomplish in a single simulation what would otherwise take hundreds, or even thousands, of iterations.
